« Child in Need Institute » active in street social work in the 144 districts of Calcutta in India

Jean-Christophe Ryckmans, Asia Region Coordinator, made a visit to Child In Need Institute (C.I.N.I.), located in Bengal, India.

Here is a short report of his stay:

Lopamudra Mullick of the Child In Need Institute participated in the October 2018 Pilot Group in Nepal and has since applied for membership in Dynamo International – Street Workers Network. Its membership will be voted at the next pilot group in 2020.

Child In Need Institute was founded by Dr Samir Chaudari in 1974 and is based in Calcutta. The institute develops program development missions in health, nutrition, education and protection of children, adolescents and women in need. It has more than 780 employees and consultants working mainly in the Bengal region.

The national platform C.I.N.I. consists of 11 private sectors (NGO) and public (government) partners, 60 of whom are directly involved in street social work. Lopamudra Mullick is the coordinator and Babu Dey is the alternate of the Indian platform.

The regional coordinator accompanied by Madam Virginie Corteval, Consul General of France who is very interested in social actions, were able to visit some of the numerous projects of C.I.N.I. in the 144 districts of Calcutta, and discover the working methods.

10,000 street children are directly affected by the action of the C.I.N.I. and up to 150,000 children and adults are indirectly supported.

A partnership with the Nepalese platform is envisaged (for the border area between the two countries).
